Marble Tub Surround in Poncey-Highland
This project involved retiling a corner tub surround and adjacent shower walls in a Poncey-Highland home. The existing tub surround had been tiled with a smaller ceramic tile that was showing grout failure and discoloration. We removed the old tile, inspected the substrate, and replaced sections of backer board where moisture had compromised the original installation.
The new tile is a large-format white marble-look porcelain, which the homeowner selected for its clean, consistent appearance. The corner tub required careful layout planning to ensure the tile pattern aligned across the three visible faces of the surround. We used a 1/16-inch grout joint with bright white unsanded grout, which gives the finished surface a near-seamless look from a normal viewing distance.
The shower walls adjacent to the tub were tiled to match, with a full waterproofing membrane applied before tile was set. This is a Poncey-Highland home with the original 1940s plumbing layout, which required us to plan the tile layout around fixed fixture positions.
