Marble Master Bathroom in Poncey-Highland
This was a full master bathroom tile project in a Poncey-Highland home that had been expanded through an addition. The bathroom included a double vanity wall, a walk-in shower, and a separate soaking tub area, all tiled in the same large-format white marble-look porcelain. The scale of the room meant that layout planning was critical to ensure the tile pattern read consistently across multiple wall surfaces.
We used 24x48 inch porcelain tiles on the walls and 24x24 on the floor. For large-format tiles of this size, we used a lippage control system during installation, which uses plastic clips and wedges to hold adjacent tiles at the same height while the mortar cures. This prevents the slight variation in tile thickness from creating visible ridges across the surface, which is particularly noticeable in a glossy tile under raking light.
The shower area received a full liquid waterproofing membrane before tile was set. The soaking tub platform was built up with concrete board and also waterproofed before tile. This project is in Poncey-Highland, in a home that was originally a 1930s bungalow with a significant addition added in the 2010s.
